The Advantages of Dry Ice Blasting Over Traditional Hydroblasting

Dry ice blasting is an exciting technique used for cleaning a variety of industrial surfaces.

Dry ice blasting is an exciting technique used for cleaning a variety of industrial surfaces. In most cases, it actually outperforms the more familiar technique of pressure washing, also known as hydroblasting.

How it Works

Concentrated particles of dry ice are directed through a powerful hose towards the contaminated areas you are attempting to clean. Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide, and provides an environmentally conscious alternative. With dry ice, you will not leave scratches, ignite fires, or cause electrical problems. If your facility handles food production, you can use dry ice blasting to clean your preparation areas and equipment and prevent the spread of diseases as well.

Less Cleanup

With Hydroblasting, highly pressurized water is used to force particles off of various surfaces. As expected, it uses a large amount of water. That water needs somewhere to go. If it has nowhere to go, it’s up to you to figure out what to do with it. This amounts to an awful lot of cleanup work. Since dry ice blasting just uses solidified gas, it just evaporates away once its job is done.

Less Downtime

When your facilities are being cleaned with hydroblasting, your machines have to be turned off and you may even have to turn off their power supply as well. Because there is water everywhere, there is an increased risk of electrocution. Your employees will also need to keep out of the area until it is dry, as the water will make it treacherous. This downtime can be a major inconvenience for your business. When you choose dry ice blasting to clean your equipment, your machines can stay plugged in and even stay powered on if you want. Your employees will be able to get right back to work on the newly cleaned machines as soon as the blasting is done.
